Campus Improvement Program

As Kalāheo High School prepares to celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2023-2024, the Foundation identified the need to improve campus landscaping and, to the extent possible, the repair and maintenance of buildings.  In both expense and scope, the renovation of the 9/11 Memorial site is our largest project ever and our current priority.

  • Lunch Room Renovation Project

    In general disrepair, the Administrative Office Lunch Room in H-Building was totally renovated in 2020 with major financial support provided by Wade Nakashima, Class of 1976, in memory of his mother Sue Sueko Nakashima. In addition to deep-cleaning, the renovation included new cabinetry, granite countertop, refrigerator, plumbing fixtures, paint, and furniture. Labor and additional financial support was provided by alumni, KHSF Board members, and friends of Kalāheo: Steve Jenness, Sean Fernandez, Jim Schlosser, Apolonia Stice, Martha Robertson, James Shigekane, Eric Morimoto, and Joy Soriano. – See KHSF Newsletter, November 2021

  • H-Building Courtyard Renovation Project

    The objectives of this project were to improve aesthetics, reduce maintenance, and repair the rusting metal sculpture. Labor and plants—pothos and crotons--were provided by board members and friends. Initiated by the Foundation board, the sculpture was completely renovated with funding by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. -- See KHSF Newsletter, August 201, and November 2021.

  • L-Building Landscaping Project

    The objectives of this project was to create an aesthetically pleasing landscape by eliminating and discouraging weeds, thereby reducing maintenance. Plants were donated and labor by board members. KHSF funded $800 for red cinders with free pick-up and delivery thanks to friends with a truck.

  • 9/11 Memorial Site Landscaping Project

    With an estimated cost of $70,000, we are seeking funds to create a visual aesthetic befitting the intent of the memorial not only on 9/11 but every day--a place for thoughtful reflection, remembrance, solace, and respect.
