The 9/11 Christine Snyder Memorial Landscape Project is Complete!

"It's beautiful!"

We are pleased to know that our $80,000+ project, completed on August 3 by Kalāheo alumni landscapers Alika and Kainoa Peterson (A&K Landscaping Services), has repeatedly prompted this positive comment.

The contractor cleared the A-Building site, poured concrete, planted trees and plants in enriched soil, improved ADA access, and plugged new grass into the bare soil under the adjacent monkeypod tree. The pro bono design expertise of landscape architect Stephen Mechler created an aesthetic that befits the memorial's purpose as a historic remembrance honoring Kalāheo alumna Christine Snyder, all 9/11 victims, first responders, and survivors.

Students can rest on the benches and gather to chat while waiting for the school buses. In addition to the existing golden shower tree in memory of alumna Christine Snyder who was aboard United Flight 93, two small golden shower trees have been planted. Plants will be tended as they grow in and hedges of yellow hibiscus will screen this peaceful site from the parking lot.
